Good morning:
Welcome to the first edition of the Safe in the City monthly email newsletter – your inside look at a new movement to make Downtown Dallas safer, stronger, and more vibrant.
For more than 65 years, Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI), has worked with our partners to ensure the urban core remains safe, clean, and welcoming for all. Seven days a week, our team of nearly 100 employees works with the public and private sector to enhance security, cleaning, homeless outreach, and entertainment in our parks and public spaces.
In recent weeks, we launched one of the most comprehensive public-private partnerships in our organization’s history to ensure Downtown continues to grow even safer — as a neighborhood, a business epicenter, and a tourist destination.
Our plan is focused around three key concepts:

This newsletter and our newly launched safedowntowndallas.com website will be two key sources for the latest news and information on Downtown Dallas safety and security.
We’ve also put together a communications template for you to share information about our campaign with your employees and colleagues, which you can access here. And we have a social media kit here, with more content to come in coming weeks.
We can’t do this alone. We are so grateful for our partners at the City of Dallas, Dallas Citizens Council, Housing Forward, Dallas Regional Chamber, Visit Dallas, and many other partners.
Whether you live here, work here, or run a business here, you have a stake in Downtown’s future. This initiative is about partnership, accountability, and action. Most importantly, it’s about making sure that everyone who calls Downtown home or spends time here feels truly safe.
Right here. Right now.

Downtown Crime: January - May

Crime in Downtown Dallas is down across the board through the first five months of 2025, as compared to the same time period last year, according to the above Dallas Police Department data. Overall, crime has decreased by 24%, including a 43% drop in non-family violence aggravated assaults.
Quality of Life Violations: January - May

DDI’s field operations teams respond seven days a week to non-emergency quality of life violations. The above chart tracks the top three Downtown violations for this year tracked by DDI. We are reporting a decrease of 29% for reports of sleeping in public. Reports of trespassing are also down, though we have seen a slight uptick in panhandling.
These types of non-emergency quality of life concerns in Downtown can be reported to DDI via our See Say app.

Our public-private coalition includes hundreds of men and women in law enforcement and private security. Every month, we’ll profile a person or organization working every day to keep Downtown Dallas safe.
We start this month with one of DDI’s leaders.

What Safe in the City means to me:
Someone feeling and being physically secure and protected while in Downtown Dallas. Safe in the City also means a strong police presence along with addressing quality of life issues in the Downtown community.
