Following Safe in the City Success, Downtown Neiman Marcus Store to Remain Open

Reporters across Dallas filed premature obituaries on our legendary Downtown Neiman Marcus store. Following heroic efforts by a team of City leaders earlier this year, Saks Global says the store will remain open beyond the 2025 holidays. Read more from D CEO’s Audrey Henvey at the link below.
The Data
WFAA: Drop in Crime, Quality of Life Infractions Driving Progress
More than six months after the public launch of the Safe in the City initiative, violent crime and quality of life infractions continue to trend down in Downtown Dallas. Among key data points through December 1:
Violent crime is down in Downtown by nearly 12% as compared to last year.
Aggravated assaults (non-family violence), robberies, burglaries, and stolen vehicles are all down.
Instances of sleeping in public are down by 35% and all homeless encampments within the core are closed.
As DDI President & CEO Jennifer Scripps tells WFAA’s Cole Sullivan in the linked story above, we are by no means declaring victory as we look to continue our efforts in 2026 and beyond.
“It is a proof of concept,” Scripps said. A concept that includes the tenets of our plan: Visible Presence, Vested Interest, Vibrant Downtown.
