Crime, Homelessness Fall in 2025

DDI’s Security, Clean, and Homeless Outreach team members collaborate every day with our law enforcement partners.

With a little over one week left in the year, the positive trends on crime and homelessness continue to hold in Downtown Dallas.

Through this week, violent crime is down by nearly 14% as compared to the same period last year, according to Dallas Police Department data. Incidents of sleeping in public tracked by DDI are down by nearly 36%. Among other key stats:

  • Aggravated assaults (non-family violence) are down by 24%

  • There have been 206 fewer vehicles stolen in Downtown as compared to the same period last year. That is a decrease of 36%.

  • DDI is reporting a reduction of more than 54% in cases of disorderly conduct (1,235 vs. 564).

We are not declaring victory, but we are grateful for the public-private partnership that has transformed the way we tackle crime and homelessness in Downtown. And we look forward to continuing this important work together in 2026 — and beyond!

Dallas City Council: Continue the Push to Combat Homelessness

Earlier this month, Dallas City Council members voted 14-1 to continue and expand the Street-to-Home initiative that began in Downtown Dallas in summer 2024. That work has housed more than 250 people who were once living on the streets of Downtown Dallas. The overwhelming endorsement of a new $10 million contract with nonprofit Housing Forward is a critical piece of a $28 million public-private effort to resolve chronic homelessness across the city.
